Society has degenerated into a slum where people have taken to kidnapping children and selling them to flesh cartels. A young woman named Sawa (India Eisley) has been pretending to be a prostitute in order to kill some of the cartel leaders, ultimately trying to reach the main leader, Emir, who had killed her parents. After a kill, she finds she needs to relax by taking a drug called “Amp”, which also wipes her memories.

Based on the groundbreaking, cult classic anime, KITE tells the story of Sawa (India Eisley,”The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” Underworld: Awakening), a young woman living in a corrupt society where crime and gangs terrorize the streets. When Sawa’s mother and policeman father are found victims of a grisly double homicide, she begins a ruthless pursuit for the man who murdered them. With the help of her father’s ex-partner, Karl Aker (Samuel L. Jackson, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Avengers, Django Unchained), and a mysterious friend from her past (Callan McAuliffe, The Great Gatsby, I Am Number Four), she becomes a merciless teen assassin, blasting her way through the dark world of human trafficking only to uncover a devastating truth.
Ignore the bad reviews because this movie is a grossly underrated work of art. It is a lot like a quenten tarantino or robert rodriguez film. And it is a remake of an anime story. So it’s meant to be a bit over the top and dramatic. It is very well done though, with a lot of beautiful colors and artistic film making, great cinematography, and of course lots of action! While watching I found myself constantly remarking to myself what a great movie it is, how artistic it is, how much I was enjoying it, and such. And of course India Eisley is at her best, giving us her classic dramatic acting but this time with a lot of action which she does very well, and she is perhaps at her hottest in this mvoie too. So I give this film a ten and think that all the people who are giving it poor ratings just don’t have an appreciation of art.
If You Like the Films of Luc Besson, the Kick-Ass Movies, Girls With Guns and Comic-Book Style Ultra-Violence than This One’s for You. Very Colorful Template and Some Rousing Action Makes this a B-Movie Worth a Watch.
Incredibly Cute Young Heroine with Wigs, Make-Up, and Wardrobe Straight Out of Japanese Anime. This is a Dark Tale of Flesh Peddling, Drug Inducement, and Survival Among the Worst of Humanity.
Flashy with a Club and Dub Soundtrack this Makes for Some Sleazy Entertainment for the Pulp Minded and has Enough to Offer Grindhouse Fans and Cult Movie Enthusiasts. It Rarely Disappoints and Delivers the Goods.
Underrated Low-Budget Kicker that is Exploitive Entertainment Extraordinaire. It’s Slick, and is Better than its Reputation.
I wasn’t expecting too much from this film. A cartoonish, stylish, over the top pseudo science fiction with lots of action and violence were in the mix for my bag of expectations for that kind of films. I kind of got all those in the bag and some more.
The direction was nothing revolutionary but stylistically nice and well paced. The acting was decent. The twists were not that unexpected for an experienced viewer but enough to keep an average viewer guessing till the end. I really don’t understand the reviewers lately. I think some of them are trying to promote or demote some certain films. I realize there’s some kind of common pattern in some one star and ten star reviews and frankly don’t trust them anymore.
Well my real rating may be around 6 and a half to seven stars out of ten but honestly I gave 8 to compensate those false one star ratings. When you read some of them you think either those people have never watched those kind of films before and don’t know what to expect or they are flat out dishonest.
If you want a decent pseudo sci-fi action film with a young heroine than you may want to give this film a chance.
