Unable to process the death of his daughter, Detective Boyd embarks on a hunt for a serial killer who murders according to a brutal tribal ritual known as Muti. The only person who can help Boyd is Dr. Mackles, an anthropologist hiding an unspeakable secret.
In Clinton, Mississippi, Detective Lucas Boyd is tasked with investigating a string of gruesome murders that appear to be connected to an African ritual known as Muti. Boyd is initially confounded by the nature of the murders and the seemingly ritualistic manner in which they are carried out. As he delves deeper into the case, he realizes that he needs the help of someone with expertise in African culture and customs. Boyd reaches out to Dr. Mackles, an African scholar, for assistance in deciphering the ritualistic elements of the murders. Together, they explore the cultural significance of Muti and its possible connection to the crimes in Clinton. As they work to unravel the mystery, they face resistance from local authorities who are skeptical of their unconventional approach to the case. It’s definitely a B movie. Like full B. Not sure why Morgan chose to be in this, but he works in his part. This full-fledged B movie has medium to lower side production quality, many plot and editing issues and a flimsy plot with violence.
In all honesty it’s not that bad, but it’s just not very good. The overall plot is actually a little interesting, ritual murders to gain power by killing innocent people. I think with a bigger budget, more takes (no scene has more than 2-3 most likely) and better, more thought out direction this could have been much better.
I won’t be writing any spoilers here, but watch til the end. Overall, it’s a basic murder plot and you know Vernon Davis (ex 49er hall of fame tight end) is the bad guy from the start. He’s a actually not bad. Go Niners!
Cheap, poorly cast & acted cop / psycho thriller “The Ritual Killer” shows how far the once great Morgan Freeman’s career has slumped. He’s a college professor of African Studies roped into supporting clichéd tough troubled detective Cole Hauser (under Peter Stormare) as he hunts witch-doctor Vernon Davis (the best of a bad bunch) who after a killing spree in Rome (hunted by Guiseppe Zeno) is now mutilating innocent victims (for Brian Kurlander) on Hauser’s Mississippi patch. Hard to believe it took six writers to produce this tosh (but directing it only took George Gallo (Freeman’s old pal from the almost as poor “The Poison Rose”)). TV-standard guff.
How did they even get the funding to hire all these great actors and why on gods green earth did they accept this horrible , terrible script ! This has got to be the biggest waste of talented actors in the history of film . Someone please stop this director from ever making a film again and please Morgan , don’t lower yourself too this junk ! You’re better then this , did they put a spell on you to accept this role ? Dear god it was awful I almost felt sorry for you all . The storyline the flow the disjointed mess that I just experienced was below you all . I honestly don’t know what else to say besides even the 7 dollars I paid to rent this movie , I want back !
